HUARAZ - CLEAN AND CLIMB IN THE HUASCARAN NATIONAL PARK | BVBP-006 | 2018-08-01 - 2018-08-21 | ENVI,SPOR, | Age: 18 - 99

 

In the last two centuries humanity is accelerating the process of climate changes trough pollution, one of the most dangerous phenomena for life on earth. Today we must work for the conservation of our environment, starting with water. This can only be achieved by raising awareness and acting now for a good and sustainable future.This project will be carried out in partnership with the provincial municipality of Huaraz and the district municipality of Independencia of the department of Ancash, and other organizations who will join. The organization responsible for the execution of the project will be the Huaraz section of the PERUVIAN BOLIVARIAN BRIGADE OF VOLUNTEERS.We ask to the volunteers willing to join us to help in the maintenance and care of the local ecosystem, in particular we Will work on two sites:- The Quillcay River. This river used to have the purest and cleanest waters of the Cordillera Blanca, but unfortunately, due to the negligence of the community and the local authorities, is increasingly contaminated by solid wastes.- La Quebrada Llaca, a beautyful Cliff in a valley surrounded by glaciers, is suffering due to heavy touristic activities. In particular the wastes left by the tourists affect the flora and fauna of the Huascaran National Park.

Work: OBJECTIVES:- Protect the health of the people who drink the waters of Quillcay river and raise awareness among the community for the care and conservation of the Callejon valley environment.- Conserve and protect the flora and fauna of the Quebrada Llaca in the Huascaran National park.ACTIVITIES:The volunteers will work with local staff and the support of associations and / or municipalities in the following tasks.1. Cleaning and collecting solid waste from the river.2.Collect the garbage from the Quebrada Llaca mountain area.3.Select the wastes collected and then recycle it.4. In the afternoons the volunteer, supported by the camp leaders, will carry on workshops on environmental awareness addressing the local community.The cleaning of the Quebrada Llaca will be carried on during the last week of the project. During this time the group will camp in the mountains and the volunteers will have the possibility to test some ecotouristic activities like rock climbing, ice and camping on the shores of Laguna de Llaca, enjoying the beautiful landscapes that Huascaran National Park offers to us.

Accomodation and food: The volunteers will be housed in the city of Huaraz. For the first 2 weeks they ll work in the Quillcay river, which is 10 minutes from the city center. The group will sleep in a building with shared rooms, a shower, an organized kitchen, and a washing machine. The volunteers will receive food and be responsible for the cooking and the cleaning. They can bring typical foods, drinks, recipes etc from their city of origin in order to organize cultural exchange evenings.During the third week of the project the group will camp in the Quebrada Llaca, at 6 km from Huaraz. The volunteers will have to bring their own camping material (tents, mats, sleeping bags etc.)

Location and Leisure: The city of Huaraz, Capital of the Ancash Region, International Capital of Friendship, and Capital of the Andean Community in South America is one of the most modern cities of the Andean Region of Peru, located in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, approximately 408 Km north of Lima.Tourism is the main source of income, visitors from all over the world come to Huaraz for climbing the beautiful snow-capped mountains of the Cordillera Blanca, to discover the wonders that surround the thousand-year-old temple of Chavin and to enjoy the various tourist attractions, like trekking circuits (hiking), skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, rafting, paragliding, rock and ice climbing, etc. Come to discover the wonders that this beautiful city contains, Huaraz and its hospitable people are looking forward to welcome youImportant: the leisure activities will be optional and won t be covered by the budget of the workcamp. The volunteers willing to participate will have to cover the costs of transportation, entrance fees, rental of the material etc.

Requirements: Bring a warm sleeping bag, working clothes, gloves and shoes, warm (winter jacket, winter hat, gloves, etc.) and rain clothes and a flashlight. Everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country.MandatoryBring shoes and mountain clothes (warm and waterproof) as well as camping equipment: tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, headlamp etc.OpcionalIf you re planning to carry out these activities, bring your rock and/or ice climbing equipment
