Description: The aim of the workcamp is to contribute to the creation of the annual etno music & theatre Floating Castle Festival, held in the picturesque surroundings of the Snežnik Castle in Slovenia. The festival involves people from the local village by setting up performances in the villages; it is international and multilingual; it encourages visitors to be involved in the realisation of the festival; and it hosts numerous types of artists and other creative spirits, who bring a variety of art forms and methods and who create thoughtful and reflective entertainment. The vast programme involves different performances, concerts, puppet shows, circus acts, street theatre, workshops for adults and children, poetry readings, exhibitions, etc.

Type of Work: Work in the pre-festival period will be dynamic (kitchen, logistics, setting up the stages...), some help will be needed on stages or installations, some will provide visitors or performers with the needed information at the Info-point, others will join the guards in helping maintain order and of course to feed so many mouths our chefs will need some help in the kitchen. We will assign you work according to the wishes you express.

Volunteer groups include: work in the artist & volunteer kitchen, in the bar, at the info point and entrance, physical and technical work (building up the festival and taking it down the first and last days), cleaning, help at the parking & camping, assistance in the preparation of stages for performers.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in a special camping area for artists & volunteers that allows for a more intimate experience with the artists as well as a pause from the visitors. Volunteers should bring their own sleeping bags & mats; if you are able to bring your own tent, that is great as well.

Requirements: Volunteers shouldn't mind sleeping in a tent and a bit of organised chaos.

Approximate Location: The castle lies on a stunning site on the edge of the Lož Valley under the Snežnik mountains surrounded by a beautiful park and vast forests with diverse and rich flora and fauna including big game ranging from bears, boars, wolves and lynxes, to wild fowl and deer, and was always favourite hunting residence. Since 2014 the Floating Castle Festival has embedded into the picturesque surroundings of the castle the late summer "folk-puppet-music-theatre site-specific event".

Notes: If you are a musician or artist, there will be plenty of space and time to play music (either organised or not), so please bring your instruments/materials/etc! Dogs and children are also welcome.
