South Africa Volunteer Work Camp Association

Work: Enjoy working with children? Join us in 2024 in Soshanguve, Pretoria South Africa, and be part of our efforts to establish an after-school program for local kids. You ll assist in organizing engaging non-formal activities such as English lessons, arts and crafts, theatre, sports etc. Additionally, volunteers will actively contribute to the development of an skills development Youth Center. Through this platform, we ll craft captivating lessons, thought-provoking articles, and captivating articles etc on subjects like volunteering, embracing cultural diversity, and other pertinent themes. We re looking for passionate people like you to help us create these activities. As a volunteer, you ll bring your fresh ideas and creativity to shape the curriculum and plan exciting activities. Working together with other volunteers, you ll create an unforgettable experience that will change the lives of local youth forever. Volunteers and community members will give support and guide local as well as international participants to different community development engagements. They will also ensure their activities address challenges that local communities face daily through development awareness through Social, economic, community, family, religious etc.) Activities range from community outreach to administrative work. Volunteers should prepare to assist with one or more of the following: creating an awareness campaign with other volunteers, administration work and a general report. Accomodation and food: Accommodation shared with the other volunteers; The accommodation is granting easy access to public transportation, shops, and various entertainment facilities and is fully equipped with modern amenities, including furniture, cosy bunk beds with fresh bed sheets, cutlery, and essential toiletries. Food will be provided and essentially local South African food that will suit almost everyone. Vegeterian dishes will be provided and please do mention well in advance so we can cater to your needs.

Location and Leisure: Leisure Activities: The Weekend is meant to be for free tours that the group can organize by themselves. All our work camps are reserved for cultural nights when each volunteer can present her/his country and culture and prepare a dish from your country. What to bring: Sleeping bag, sun cream, mosquito spray/lotion, sandals, shoes are advisable. Raincoat, light working clothes during working hours and warm clothes at night, as it may turn out to be chilly; Torch or flash light and arts and cultural items such as drums etc. for the children even sporting equipment such as soccer balls etc. and board games.

Train/Bus station: Book your tickets to OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa Take the Gautrain from OR Tambo International Airport located upstairs of the Arrival Lounge to Pretoria station. Purchase a train card once you exit the airport to follow online on www.gautrain.co.za This is a world class train safe and reliable. You will change train at Marlboro station take train going towards Pretoria station on Platform A upstairs. Once at Pretoria station just wait for SAVWA official to pick you up. Please reserve a small amount of money for transport to the camp and vice-verse. We advise all volunteers to ask for advice from us when they are planning to book their ticket to Pretoria and let us know of their date of arrival and departure

Requirements: The work camp participation fee is strictly Euro 300 per month, and this covers simple accommodation, food and project expenses office running/administrative expenses, certificate of participation during the camp, communication prior to, during and after the camp. Please note that this does not include travel expenses to and from the camp, pick up from airport so participants are asked to reserve a small amount of money for transport to the camp and vice-verse. We advise all volunteers to ask for advice from us when they are planning to book their ticket to South Africa.
