Concordia is excited to continue our flagship international volunteering programme, the fifth iteration of Brighton Rocks: Brighton Rocks V. Concordia will host a group of 14 international volunteers in Brighton to work with a local host carrying out a blend of environmental and manual volunteering. Alongside this volunteers will have the opportunity to carry out some culturally enriching activities alongside leisure visits to a nearby town and the very popular city of Brighton.

Work: As mentioned, volunteers will be carrying out environmental sustainability and manual volunteering, volunteering with a local partner, Stanmer Organics. A long-term sustainable partner of Concordia. Volunteers will carry out work on a beautiful community orchard.. Working alongside other local volunteers for two days, with the third day being dedicated to Stanmer Organics, creating opportunities to help act towards the sustainability of the trust. Tasks volunteers may complete during the three days will include the following: - Forest Gardening - Water Harvesting - Composting - Seed Saving - Educational uses and benefits of weeding - General maintenance This project is also a wonderful place to ask any questions that you may have about sustainability and permaculture. The project will last 7 days, including 2 travel days. There will be 3 and a half days dedicated to volunteering and 1 and a half days dedicated to leisure and culture activities. During the leisure days, volunteers will have the opportunity to travel to the historic Lewes and a Visit to the town of Brighton, going to the beach, the pier and exploring the historic lanes.

Accomodation and food: Volunteers will be accommodated at Varley Park at the University of Brighton, in a small suburb North East of the main city. Each volunteer will have their own bedroom with a bed, sink, storage. There is shared bathroom and shower facilities. Volunteers will have communal kitchens in which a fridge, freezer and ovens are provided. Volunteers will have access to Wi-Fi. Please be aware that the plugs will be British three-pin standard. Concordia will provide volunteers with ingredients to make meals along with drinks and snacks. Food will be cooked and prepared by the volunteers. The Concordia Coordinator will ensure a ‘rota’ is created with one team cooking and one team cleaning each meal time. Food preparation and consumption will take place in one of the flats and not both. It is important that all volunteers take part in the cooking as it will make it a much more enjoyable activity! If you do have any allergens or dietary requirements, please ensure that these are listed on your consent form prior to your arrival to the UK.

Location: Brighton

Location and Leisure: Brighton is situated on the South Coast of England, roughly 90 minutes south of London by train, located in East Sussex. It is a picturesque seaside town, rich in diversity, history and individuality. Famous for its pier and North Laines, Brighton has lots to discover! The project will take place in Brighton, East Sussex, England. Brighton is a vibrant city where the volunteers will explore British culture and develop their language skills. Cultural visits and leisure activities will be organised together with the group. Visits to close-by sites will ensure that the group get the whole feeling of the city. Surrounding Brighton is the South Downs, a national park providing great hiking opportunities to reach great views of the county. The Concordia Coordinator will help volunteers make plans for their free time – but volunteers will be expected to contribute ideas and suggestions for activities. CULTURAL AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES: Please note that cultural and leisure activities are an important part of the project, dedicated to the intercultural exchange of international teens. Cultural and leisure activities may include the following (This is subject to change and weather dependent) • Trip to the historic town of Lewes • Lewes castle • Intercultural cooking night • Games night • Fish and Chips Takeaway meal. • Group activities at Stanmer Park • Trip to Brighton Pier • Individual time to explore Brighton as small groups. • Movie Nights

Volunteers will need to make their own way to Brighton station, where the Concordia Coordinator will meet the volunteers. Ensure you are not late to the meeting point, if you think you are going to be late then please inform the Concordia Coordinator.

Extra Fee: 470 GBP

CONCORDIA COORDINATOR: Two Concordia coordinators will be with the group for the duration of the project. The coordinators will have strong experience in leading groups, possess a police check and have carried out extensive training with Concordia.
